What are the sources of patient experience feedback in the UK prison setting, and what do patients and healthcare staff think about giving and receiving feedback in prison? A qualitative study

Background: The collection of patient experience feedback (PEF) has seen a marked global increase in the past decade. Research about PEF concentrated mainly on hospital settings albeit recent interest primary care. There been minimal research prison healthcare setting. aim this study was to explore role PEF, different forms it might take and perceptions staff people prison. Methods: Qualitative face interview involving 24 participants across two prisons (male female) North England, 12 patients. Framework analysis undertaken. Results: sources were variable, from informal verbal through formal written. willingness give related whether they felt sufficiently comfortable raise concerns, with some feeling too frightened having apprehension anonymity. It viewed as disheartening but not be informed any outcome. Healthcare opinions divergent found unhelpful when regime issues rather than healthcare. Suggestions for improving process put forward included accessibility, anonymity digitalisation.
